This is my ode to my dear friend Nancy
I shift, I move,
I dance in and out of your sight.
We pass each other
and for a time you are the steadying hand in my life,
And then the drifting islands of circumstance pull us apart again.
I lose you sometimes only to rediscover you.
Through it all there is no resentment.
We both understand that the permanence of our friendship
comes from it's temporary nature.
When I need you, you are there.
Years may pass before I hear your voice again,
But when I do hear you,
You are as fresh and dazzling as ever.
Though most of our lives are spent in a calm, but artificial distance,
you are my friend,
And I am thinking of you now.
